The Great Raid (2005)

Before heading out to the movie theatre this evening I scanned a couple reviews of "The Great Raid".
According to the opinions I read, the movie would be slow, boring, expressionless, and devoid of emotion.
I am so glad I ignored them.

If you are someone who appreciates a fight for a just cause;
If you don't mind seeing our enemies inhumanity; If you can admire a man who respects the institution of marriage,
If you are inspired by seeing different men iron out a military plan in spite of their differences; If integrity, constancy of purpose, loyalty to friends and countrymen
is good thing in your eyes; If seeing our military succeed against a brutal
enemy dose not offend you; If you are grateful for these heroes who only want to serve and protect what they love; then you will forgive them for not being more colorful in their speech.
These soldiers experiences and what they care for will resonate clearly in you. You will not wish for more plane crashes or exploding gas tanks or sex scenes or whatever else these reviewers have come to expect from a movie. You will instead see a story about common men accomplishing great things because of their shared commitment.
I shudder to think how these themes, that brought a tear to my eye more than
once in this film, left no reportable impression in the hearts of some other
reviewers.

This isn't a great epic like Private Ryan, but I'm certainly glad I saw
The Great Raid.
Don't let the naysayers keep you away from enjoying
this portrayal of one of our military's greatest successes.
